Dr. Suna Gunther joined University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Glenn Korff School of Music Fall 2021 as Assistant Professor of Voice. Previous positions have included Coordinator of Voice at the College of Saint Rose, Instructor of Musical Theatre at University of North Dakota, and Lecturer of Voice at Berea College. She previously served as a pianist and coach at the University of Kentucky and Theory Instructor at Indiana University – Bloomington.

Dr. Gunther’s recent stage performances include the roles of Musetta (
La Boheme), Flora (La Traviata), Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte), and the Mother  in Amahl and the Night Visitors. At UNL, she is also a member of the Faculty Jazz Ensemble, where she sings and plays alto saxophone. Dr. Gunther is a fifteen year member of the Grant Park Chorus of Chicago and spent ten years as the assistant music director and soprano of Trio Chicago and Friends, a group that traveled on behalf of the U.S. State Department as “cultural ambassadors” to Singapore, Korea, Palau, Indonesia, Thailand, The Marshall Islands, Turkey, Kuwait, Chile, Peru, Cambodia, Saudi Arabia, and the Federated States of Micronesia. Her most recent research initiatives involve the pedagogy of ornamentation, improvisation and riffing in various genres, as well as the study of Turkish art and folk music.

​She is a strong advocate for inclusive teaching across genres. Dr. Gunther holds degrees in Vocal Performance and Instrumental Music Education from Northwestern University and Voice and Opera from Indiana University in Bloomington.
